Episode Two: Hangmen & Harris Hawks

Celestia, Corzin and Scamp find themselves in frantic pursuit of their assailant, winding up in a less cosy part of Scarroll’s Cove. After a certain amount of cross-examination by the watch, they encounter some particularly murderous travel difficulties.

Each week on Flintlocks and Fireballs, join actors Robbie Bellekom (as Scamp), Sam Burns (as Corzin Horhace) and Ellie Sparrow (as Celestia Stardust) with Dungeon Master Jason Phelps for adventure in the Napoleonic world of Calcinea, a setting for 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons.

Music: All tracks except the theme song by Kevin MacLeod. Rated 15+ (We swear like sailors.)

A More Accurate Map of Calcinea!

You may recall our earlier post with a map of Calcinea.  Well it turns out that had a couple of problems with it!  The first was that the world was a little small, especially the other continents, for the epic globetrotting fantasy we planned to tell.

The second was that Calcinea’s entire circumference turned out to be around 4000 miles at the equator, roughly a sixth that of Earth’s.  Calcinea was tiny.

This is our answer to that.

Calcinea World Map Smaller

This is not a complete map, nor a wholly accurate map of the world – there is a notable absence of polar regions and rather a lot of certain places (Faernon in particular) seem to have just been ‘filled in’ with jungle.  This is because this map is about as accurate a map as we can get in 1797.  (And maybe the DM wants space to put things in later.)  Exploration is still ongoing.

The Dragon Coast, where the story starts, is in the north-eastern edge of the smallest continent, Jova (geographers, politicians and several kings with armies have argued over whether Sanustal is part of Jova or Haldanos).  If you look carefully, you can recognise the Draconic Archipelago there.

We fully expect to see at least two continents before this campaign is over.  Trim your sails, we have a long voyage ahead.

Episode One: Fake Beards & Broken Necks

You can check out the first episode of Flintlocks and Fireballs here: Fake Beards and Broken Necks!

In the sleepy port town of Scarroll’s Cove, three strangers are brought together by chance, fate and the lack of seating space in a cramped bar. When privateer (not a pirate!) halfling Corzin Horhace, drow bard Celestia Stardust and mysterious bearded stranger Scamp become aware of a series of brutal murders, danger lies overhead…

Music Credit: Basically everything except the theme tune is by Kevin MacLeod. Rated 15+ (We swear like sailors.)

We’re Nearly There!

The first episode won’t go live until 7pm GMT (6pm British Summer Time), but when it does you’ll be able to find it here (and eventually on iTunes):

Cast Announcement: Ellie Sparrow

Ellie Sparrow will be playing Celestia Stardust, a drow elf bard.

Ellie Sparrow is an actor, playwright and co-director of theatre company Break the ‘Verse. Their first arts council funded play was on at the end of last year, which she cowrote, aided heavily by red wine.
Ellie Started role playing when the DM of this campaign made her 4 years ago. She thought the whole thing would be incredibly lame and agreed that she’d try it once. She has never been more wrong. It was not lame. And here she is 4 years later on a D&D podcast.
